Our Story
Co-owner Kim Sytsema began her culinary career in Wyckoff, N.J. at her family’s farm, Abma’s Farm. It was there that she first began experimenting with baking in the old farmhouse. What started as a hobby led to an opportunity to open a successful bakery on the farm. The experience of picking rhubarb and strawberries by hand, collecting the eggs and peeling local apples fortified Kim’s commitment to choosing wholesome, locally-grown ingredients for her products.
After 15 years of commuting to Wyckoff from Sussex County, having three young children and a dairy farmer husband who was looking for a change, opening a bakery and deli seemed like the perfect next step. A leap of faith and a desire to follow their dreams is what motivated Kim and her husband Rich to open Clove Brook Market in 2003. Kim’s continued commitment to using the freshest ingredients can be seen by all who visit Clove Brook.
“Our customers are looking for delicious food that tastes like what they remember in their childhood....people don’t bake anymore, what we do is now a novelty...a lost art. It’s special."
Rich acknowledges, "Our community has been so supportive, and it's been such a blessing to see the business evolve and unfold to attract visitors from beyond our borders of Sussex County.”
